Planning For My Music Video

I plan on shooting this music video over the Thanksgiving break. This is mostly due to the time allowance. The week long break will allow me to get a lot of footage to use in my video. initially, when I choose this song and learned what it was about, I wanted to stay as closely to the intended aesthetic of the music video. However, I will be traveling with my family during this time which requires me to deviate from my inital concepts for this video. My family and I will be driving up to North Carolina to visit a friend. My parents, sisters and dogs don't really match the characters and persona that M.I.A. built in her video so I probably can't replicate it like I planned. Therefore, I plan on going the exact opposite direction. Paper Planes is about harmful and false stereotypes about immigrants in America. M.I.A. used her music video to exaggerate these conceptions to bring awareness about the hypocrisy of people's judgement. In my music video, I hope to correct people's conceptions. Both of my parents are immigrants to America while my sisters and I were born here making us first generation americans. While we are not part of the demographic that is typically harmed by negative stereotypes, immigration is still an important issue for me and my family. I hope we can accurately portray what immigrants are actually like by shooting scenes from our travels during the holiday. On this trip, we will be stopping a few places and will spend about 30 hours in the car both ways on this road trip. Our end destination is our friend's house in North Carolina. I plan on shooting scenes from each phase and stop on our trip. This process will happen gradually through the trip and will likely result in a lot of short clips to share as much or the journey as possible. I don't see how anything might effect this plan besides the whole trip being cancelled, which is unlikely. If, however, something does happen, I will probably shoot the commercial in and around my home using my family and sticking to the theme of accurate image of immigrant families. [11/17/20]
