The song used in this music video is called Hey, Soul Sister, and was created by an American rock band, Train. It was released as part of the band's fifth studio album, Save Me, San Fransisco in 2009. The song was written by singer Patrick Monahan and is a tribute to their hometown and "the group's folk-rock roots". The song has since sold over 6 million copies, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100, and won a Grammy as well as a Billboard Music Award. 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? This song is classified as a mid-tempo pop-rock song but it doesn't match typical lyrical and melodical norms for this genre. It was written in the key, E Major, and moves at 97 bpm. The song has a signature pattern of ukulele, something fairly uncommon in pop. Most songs within this musical style are more aggressive and quick-paced but Hey, Soul Sister uses some more country/folk influence. It ...

This project was the second major project I've done for this class, and so far, the one I've enjoyed most. I enjoyed the volatility of my situation and the freedom of content. The melody of the song brings me a lot of joy and when I combined it with my own experiences it feels like a flashback of a happy memory. I would actually consider doing this for more similar circumstances in the future. Vacations in a post COVID world would be an ideal example. I would like to fit in more scenes though so I would probably choose to use whole the song of whatever song I choose. I think that for this particular line of editing and filming I would choose songs similar to the one I choose for this project. This would include Hey There Delilah By Plain White T's, Riptide by Vance Joy, Hey Brother by Avicii and Fireflies by Owl City. I'm very happy with the choices I've made, including choosing not to join or form a group. This was a smart decision for my situation. Traveling ma...

Music Video Blog: Review

This project will probably be one of my favorites from this class. This ended up being a very personal project and a refection on one of my life experiences. Because I filmed the project in my persepctive, it gave me a chance to review what I found most interesting and what I actually spent most of time looking at or experiencing throughout my day. Choosing what memories I wanted to share and how I wanted them to be perceived was actually a very interesting process. This project was a progression of my journey. I shared by day, starting from the beginning. Editing this video was probably one of my favorite parts of the project, much to my surprise. Usually I don't enjoy this step, but this time I had a lot of fun with the process. I think this is because I had an emotional connection to the footage I shot. In contrast, I ended up not really loving the filming process because I was annoyed by how it took away from my real experience. The pressure to film for this project was alwa...

Editing Blog: Music Video

I chose to edit my project with the footage I complied during my trip but with a different song. After reviewing the scenes I had, and listening to the song I chose, I realized that while I could combine the two, that there was a better song I hadn't considered before. After some deliberation, I switched my song from Paper Planes By M.I.A to Hey, Soul Sister by Train. This song classifies as pop rock and has a more soulful, slow melody and lyric. The use of instruments and the rhythm have some country influences and the whole song is upbeat and methodical. The whole song really brings an image of adventure and happiness. For this project, I wanted to display my perspective to the best of my ability while still matching the meaning and mood of the song. I included a lot of short clips to create a 'reel' of memories to tell the story of the journey and create movement. Choosing to do this allowed me to avoid the tiring and endless process of aligning scene and smoothing ou...
