Music Video Blog: Review
This project will probably be one of my favorites from this class. This ended up being a very personal project and a refection on one of my life experiences. Because I filmed the project in my persepctive, it gave me a chance to review what I found most interesting and what I actually spent most of time looking at or experiencing throughout my day. Choosing what memories I wanted to share and how I wanted them to be perceived was actually a very interesting process.
This project was a progression of my journey. I shared by day, starting from the beginning. Editing this video was probably one of my favorite parts of the project, much to my surprise. Usually I don't enjoy this step, but this time I had a lot of fun with the process. I think this is because I had an emotional connection to the footage I shot. In contrast, I ended up not really loving the filming process because I was annoyed by how it took away from my real experience. The pressure to film for this project was always weighing on me. Still, I had a lot of fun putting all the pieces together. The entirety of the film was in my perspective, so everything the camera shows, I also saw. Because of this, I had a unique advantage in placement and content because of the positive feelings I had associated with each clip. Like I mentioned in my filming blog, the actual footage I shot was mostly impulsive and in-the-moment which meant that the plans I had for the editing we very loose and moveable. Some parts I filmed with intent, and I knew the order I wanted to place the clips, but the content was very vague at the beginning. Once I had everything recorded, however, the image of what I wanted became very clear.
I took out any audio from the clip because I knew it would ruin the effect of the song. However, I purposely left in a clip containing audio of the sound of the rain because I liked how it created a sense of realism. Rain also has a lot of positive associations for me and I liked that I could add something that I love and still appeal to sense other than sight. Some clips were shortened, some weren't included and other moments I wish I had gotten on film, but over all I adore how this video turned out and I hope to be able to do something similar again.
