Genre Research: 6 Underground
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
This film has a lot of fight and chase scenes with dramatic editing and weaponry. The main characters were highly skilled and well trained, but still with in human limits. This is something my character will reflect as her abilities in strength, agility, etc are not super human. The humor of the characters was brutal and occasionally crude, but very entertaining and well orchestrated. I would like to reflect this type of dry joking into my opening sequence.
What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?
I enjoyed the high-tech, covert style of the characters. The fact that they faked their deaths and operated as skilled spies without rules or government control was super entertaining to me. The storyline had tons of edgy humour and intense violence. The visual were stunning and dynamic. There is never a dull moment and it was easy to regret looking away even for a moment. The lack of monotony is something I enjoy from action, particularly in this style, and is something I consider a niche of the action film genre. The vividness of the film was a huge bonus to the action scenes and visual appeal. The actors were all attractive and skilled at conveying their emotions and lines well, something I find important to the quality of a film.
What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?
There was a sense of military idolatry that I didn't enjoy particularly. And like many action movies there was certain degree of female objectification despite the powerful and important roles the female characters played. This was all paired with a narrative that the rich will save us, something I can state wholeheartedly is false. It occasionally felt overwhelming and over-stylised. The plot could be incoherent and dizzy at times. There was little intellectual stimulation and seemed slightly aimless, with a feeling of style of substance. The story was dynamic and enjoyable but exhausting to keep up with. Overall, there was a lot of stimulation with very little rest.
