Genre Research: Venom

What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? I've chosen to use the supernatural and combat elements of this film. The power the character of my film and the power of the character in Venom are widely different. The origin and ability of the character's powers don't match but, the supernatural element is certainly there. Both films also involve a childish but powerful character in the main storyline as well. The fighting in this film is also something I've chosen to use. My character will be using classic human weaponry and normal human strength and agility but will boast fight scenes as epic as the ones in Venom. What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? I enjoyed the power growth the characters had. I've chosen not to convey this in my opening sequences, nor would I if I were to film my pitch as a movie; however, I like the concept. The attempt at humourous dialogue was something I also enjoyed. Humor in combination with action is one of my favorite filming genre combinations. It makes the characters more relatable and dynamic. I enjoyed the personalities of both characters individually. I thought they both had potential for amazing interactions and funny, epic scenes. What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you? I didn't enjoy the relationship between the two main characters. I thought that the dynamic was one-sided and unrealistic even excluding the superhuman nature of the film. The power imbalance was poorly done. I found the conversations dull and not as funny as they attempted to make it. In general, I think it took to long for the story to progress and the beginning of the film was slower then I would have liked. The involvement of other interesting characters was limited and there wasn't the gradual growth that these films typically have. In fact, the characters grew very little in terms of emotion and maturity, which I would have liked to see.
