My Pitch
Choosing a pitch was very difficult for me. Determining the basis of this project is something I struggled with as I worry over how it can convey my message as well as whether I am capable of creating content I can be proud. This step is the core of the entire project and I want to enjoy the process; however, I worry that I can't properly convey my pitch. This makes this step a personal challenge and I hope my decision was the right one.
Sometimes I struggle with coming up with ideas, but for this project, my struggle was picking out of the ones I had. This project was different then anything I've done before so I had a lot of ideas about what I want it to be about. For a while I thought about choosing horror as the genre and even considered an apocalyptic theme. However, in the end, I went with a classic genre, and arguably my personal favorite, action. I thought action would be broad choice with many perspectives. I knew I wanted to include humor with the action because I enjoy films with those elements the most and I knew I wanted a female lead because I can best represent that perceptive.
In the end, I eliminated it down to two options. The first of my two pitches is; "The bloody revenge of a heartbroken woman and her slightly homicidal friend group." In this film, a bright, cheery woman is cheated on and abused by her partner, a influential politician. Together with her friends, they enact a bloody revenge in a comical and violent way. I think I would enjoy making this movie because it's very dynamic and contains two things that always get attention: humor and gore. The plotline is interesting and allows for plot twists and constant movement. The story mixes two iconic themes; revenge of a lover and assassination which would make some hysterical scenes and be a lot of fun to film. Mostly, I would love to make this movie because it something I would love to watch.
The second pitch is "an immortal mercenary becomes the world's most dangerous babysitter" in a classic 'what doesn't kill you makes you not dead' scenario. In this film, an undying assassin is drawn into an international issue involving a very dangerous little girl. Again, I would love to incorporate a strong sense of humor here as well as some intense action scenes. I think here I could get some great combat scenes and properly create a 'shock and awe' factor that I couldn't get with my other pitch. I would love to do something like this because it incorporates supernatural abilities with the action and humor.
In general, I really enjoy minor twists on classic and iconic storylines. After significant consideration, I've decided to go with the second pitch "an immortal mercenary becomes the ultimate babysitter". While I love both of my ideas, I thought the second pitch would be easier to portray as there are less actors involved with the filming process. I also have a lot of strong ideas of how to convey the storyline in an opening sequence.
