Research Genre: Action

For my opening sequence, I've chosen to do action. I knew when I started this project I that I had to do this particular genre. The joy I get from watch action films is something I want to try to recreate for myself. The positive associations as well as the memories I have of action films make it something very personal. When I have to make something that's uniquely mine, I try to mimic what make me the happiest. For me, action movies are a display of your wildest dreams and most daring adventures. All the things you think you could never do because your not good enough, not brave enough or not skilled enough for is being done right in front of you. This genre is one where a protagonist or protagonists are thrust into a series of events that typically include violence, extended fighting, physical feats, rescues and frantic chases. Its one of the most broad and well developed in terms of diversity and versatility. The satisfaction of viewers who get immersed in the story is rewarding and a successful action film will leave its audience with a feeling of achievement and certainty. Action movies are an epic combination of brains, brawn, and skill. Its fun to watch because, in action films, the hero always wins; In life, in love, and in war. After wracking my brain for pitches, the stories I put together in my head all fit into the action genre. Even when I considered other style, apocalyptic for example, I still kept going back to the version of action I knew best. The talent of the martial artists and stunt actors in action films always astounds me. The plots are easy to follow and fun to watch. The endings are satisfying and the main character is usually likeable. With action, I could combine humor, violence, and epic visuals. With action, it is possible for complete uniqueness despite the commonality of the genre. It is entirely possible to surprise and astound your audience with something completely new and a reflection of self.
