Spring Break Filming

Image
At the beginning of spring break, I had planned to finish filming within the week. Unfortunately, this did not happen. Due to visiting extended family, COVID, and other details, I was not able to meet up with my actor to film the additional scenes. I am still missing around half of the scenes from the original storyboard. I did manage to briefly meet my friend for lunch; however, it was not convenient to film the footage at the location. Not only was it a public setting, but we didn't have the props needed to fulfill the scene requirements. I managed to successfully film one scene because it also involved food but it wasn't appropriate to do anything else. Due to background noise, I also have to do a separate voiceover for dialogue on top of the original voiceover. I am now contemplating removing some of the original scenes and replacing them with footage I already have. This way I can begin the editing process. First, I will be reaching out to my main actor to see if she is ...

Preparing For Final Recording

Image
There has been no new filming since my last update. The lack of progress can be attributed to one particular reasons; the staff is not available. Both the main actor and the director have been very busy with school and other activities. The workweek has been particularly hectic as the quarter has been ending. Furthermore, the lack of accessible transportation and the large distance between locations has been a difficult problem to overcome. This means the main actor and producer have been forced to rely on others and most accommodate their schedules. Therefore, the upcoming spring break will serve as the final filming period. Over a period of 24-72 hours the last scenes will be recorded. I will then review any footage so see if anything has to be redone and also make sure I have enough video to meet the 2 minutes requirement. I also plan to try to edit during this time. This is one of the steps I'm looking forward to most in this project. Being able to see everything come togethe...

New Location

Image
I have not filmed any additional footage since the last time I blogged. This this is because I have been busy moving to a new location. I have finished all my recording in the previous location and am preparing to film my final scenes this weekend. This includes the water scenes as well as the running scenes, which I couldn't film before. Like I've mentioned before, I haven't made any official or final changes to the script or storyboard. Any changes that happen will likely be in the editing process. It would be then that I would review my footage and make sure it matches my standards. This includes time, sound, music, scene order, scene content, etc.. For the first time, staff besides the main actor and I will be involved in the filming process. To stay as safe as possible during this pandemic, I will be using only family members for the additional actors. This includes my parents, who are also serving as part of the safety crew, my two sisters, and even my dogs. There i...

Recording New Footage

Image
Over the past several days, I've started to film additional footage. Some of the scenes are from the original storyboard. Like always, I've also recorded several additional scenes that may or may not be included. The inspiration for the additional scenes are spontaneous and completely improvised. They are only recorded because of an idea I get at a certain location due to details in my surroundings. I have altered several scenes from the storyboard slightly as well. For example, I have recorded a scene from a new perspective that lends context to preexisting scenes. The main reason I have been filming new/additional scenes is to insure I have enough footage to make the 2 minute marker. I belive I will have attended that time at the end of the filming process. When I filmed, I wanted to make sure to use a few actors as possible to make filming as COVID friendly as possible. Therefore, the majority of the scenes in my final project only include the main actor. We moved between ...

Production Blog

Image
I did film some extra scenes that weren't in my original storyboard as well as the scenes I've recorded so far. The reason I have not finished recording is that I require a location that is not currently accessable to me. That location will only be available in a week. So I am recording what I can, including additional scene to make sure that I'm not missing anything when I leave this location. Due to my current location, many scenes involved cold temperatures and snow. Sometimes the temperature dropped, sometimes we fell, particularly with recent footage, and other times we had to improvise. Finding the materials sometimes required some searching and sometimes different locations were better for certain scenes than others. We did not record any main storyboard footage since last time but I did record some extra footage. This took place at a new location and I did not originally intend to record footage there. So far I have not officially made any changes to the script or ...

Filming & Editing Blog

Image
Now that the script has been completed, I've coordinate and plan activities with those participating in the film. This includes actors and safety team members. It is important that we take COVID 19 precautions; however, I am not overly concerned as all participants have been cautious and COVID free thus far. As it happens, I have began initial filming processes and shots. Filming proceeded smoothly and almost accidentally. Originally, I did not plan on filming so quickly; however, it happened to work out filming was convenient now. Several scenes have been successful recorded but I haven't finished the vast majority of the filming has not been completed. I plan on filming all the snow related scenes first and then review what still needs to be completed to plan the schedule out. I haven't made any major changes to the story so far. I do have some additional footage recorded that was not in the original plan but I have not decided whether i plan on using it or not. Dependi...

Planning Blog: Storyboard

Image
The main character of this story is called Navier which is why the film title shares that name. She is an undying mercenary with a wicked sense of humor. Though it is not conveyed in the opening sequence, she eventually goes on to work as a bodyguard/babysitter for a young, rich child. Navier is the only character that is established in these scenes. In the opening sequence, I attempted to establish her personality, experience, and power.

Planning Blog: Title

Image
The opening credits for my film will appear in block text. They will slide in and out of frame from left to right. There will be some exeptions when possible. For example I may write out the text in the enviornment in the scene. For example, in the final scene I plan on writing out the title in the sand. - Working title: my current title is Navier. - The style of the text (those not included in the scene setting) will be block text for the lettering. - The text will slide in quickly slide in from the left and stop in the middle of the frame before sliding to the right, out of frame. - The text will appear for 3-5 seconds. - The text will be bold and all caps. - Depending on the scene, I plan on using black and white block text with slightly lighter or darker position/role titles. - The name of the indivudal will be slightly larger, from 16ppt to 20ppt.
